Squirm.io — the multiplayer worm game you play free in your browser

Squirm.io is a free multiplayer worm game played in a web browser. You steer a worm around a shared arena, eat pellets to grow longer, and try to make every other worm crash into you before you crash into one of them. There is no download, no install and no sign-up — the game starts the moment you press play.

    How Squirm.io works

Every worm in the arena is controlled by a head. Steer with the mouse, turn with the left and right arrow keys, or push a joystick with your thumb on mobile. Eating a pellet adds length; length is your score and the only thing the leaderboard measures.

The single rule that matters is this: if your head touches another worm's body, you die. Bodies pass through each other harmlessly, and you can coil through your own body as much as you like. That makes this a game about cutting people off, not about ramming them. Two heads meeting kills both worms, whatever size they are — there is no size tiebreak, so charging at someone bigger than you is never a winning move.

Boost by holding the left mouse button or Space. You move faster, but you burn length and it falls behind you as pellets that anyone can eat. Boosting away from a fight feeds whoever is chasing you.

Why this worm game is different

Most worm and snake io games punish size twice: big worms move slower and turn slower, so the arena stalls into a few enormous worms nobody can catch. In Squirm.io speed is constant. A worm of length 10 and a worm of length 10,000 travel at exactly the same rate. The only thing size costs you is turning circle, which is what keeps giants killable and small worms genuinely dangerous.

When a worm dies it gives back 65% of its length as pellets and the rest is destroyed. That deliberate leak is what stops a long-running arena inflating until every worm is the size of the map.

There are no power-ups, no pay-to-win purchases and no gates on the first few minutes. Worm skins are cosmetic and always will be.

Play Squirm.io on mobile or desktop

On desktop, your worm follows the mouse and boost is the left button or Space. On a phone or tablet you get a joystick in the bottom-left and a boost button in the bottom-right. It is the same arena either way — this is one browser game, not a desktop version and a cut-down mobile one.

Because it is a browser game with nothing to install, Squirm.io also works on locked- down school and work machines where downloads are blocked. There is more on that on the Squirm.io unblocked page.

    Squirm.io FAQ

Common questions about this worm game

    How do you play Squirm.io?

Move your mouse and your worm follows the cursor, or turn with the left and right arrow keys or A and D. Eat the glowing pellets to grow longer. If your head touches another worm's body you die, so the aim is to cut in front of other worms and make them hit you instead. Hold the left mouse button, Space or Shift to boost, which costs length.

Can you play Squirm.io with friends?

Yes — everyone in a region joins the same arenas, so you can play alongside friends by loading the game at the same time. There are no private rooms or invite links yet.

    Is Squirm.io free?

Yes. Squirm.io is free to play in your browser with no download, no install and no sign-up. Every worm skin is cosmetic and none of them affect how the game plays.

Are Squirm.io players real people or bots?

Both. Arenas are filled with computer-controlled worms so a game is never empty, and real players join the same arenas. The number of bots falls as more real players are online.

How do you boost in Squirm.io?

Hold the left mouse button, Space, Shift, or the up arrow or W on desktop, or the boost button on touch. Boosting speeds you from 200 to 380 units a second and burns 4 length a second, which drops behind you as pellets anyone can eat.

How do you become the biggest worm in Squirm.io?

Farm the pellet clouds left by dead worms rather than chasing loose pellets, cut in front of bigger worms instead of chasing them from behind, and only boost when you have somewhere to go. Length is the only score.

Can you play Squirm.io without downloading anything?

Yes. Squirm.io runs entirely in the browser on desktop, tablet and phone. There is nothing to download and nothing to install.
